There are A LOT of lip products out there and knowing what you are looking for can be kind of difficult! There are so many types of lip colors, varieties and finishes. To get what you really want out of your lip color, you have to know your options so you know what type or product you are actually after.
I won’t cover EVERY single lip product out there, that might be impossible, but I will give a basic run-down of types products so you know what’s what next time you are out shopping.
As you can see, all the lip products above have a different look and finish to them.
This product is, more or less, lip stick. The twist with this particular lip stick is that it is “ColorStay” meaning long lasting. My point in showing it to you, is that lip stick doesn’t always look like a traditional tube of lipstick. I prefer lipsticks not in the traditional tube because, for me, it’s easier to use. This is Revlon ColorStay in High Heels.
Lipsticks come in many different finishes, so when you are buying be sure to check which finish you are getting so you get what you want. The colors shown are Revlon Super Lustrous Matte Lipstick in Stormy Pink and Revlon Super Lustrous Creme Lipstick in Wink for Pink.
Lip stain is exactly what it sounds like, it stains your lips! They come in a lot of different applicator styles, but this is my favorite. It is very easy to use, long lasting, and low maintenance. The idea of stain is that is colors your lips all day long with a sheer color. It doesn’t look as heavy as a lipstick or gloss. Lip stain on it’s own can look dull, but that is easily fixed with a quick coat of lip balm or lip gloss. I love lip stain for daily, low maintenance use. This lip stain is Revlon Just Bitten in Passion.
Lip gloss is going to be your high shine lip color, that probably won’t last super long. Lip gloss is super easy to use and is pretty forgiving, in that a quick coat usually looks just fine and you don’t need to be too precise. It is also great for layering over any other lip color. There are a ton of applicators out there, but this simple wand type is my favorite. This is Buxom Full On Polish in Dolly.
I LOVE lip butter. Almost all drugstore brands have their variation of lip butter and I want to buy them all. Lip butter is generally sheer and shimmery lip color that goes on super smooth. Plus, it adds lots of moisture to your lips making them nice and soft. Because it is sheer, lip butter is also forgiving and no need to apply it precisely. This is Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Peach Parfait, this color is so pretty and flattering on EVERY ONE!
Lip crayons come in all sorts of colors and finishes, just like lip stick. What I love about them is that they are so much easier to use than lip stick. I have also found that most lip crayons are also moisturizing, most standard lip stick is not. You are likely to find a wider color variety with lipsticks. In my opinion, lip crayons are easier to keep in your purse and use all throughout the day than lipstick. This crayon is Revlon ColorBurst in Demure.
Tinted Lip Balm
Tinted lip balm is a must. You get all the benefits of a great lip moisturizer, plus a little color too. There are a variety of shades you can get a tinted lip balm in, some more pigmented than others. This is Maybelline Baby Lips in Coral Crave.
