5 Especially Awesome Drugstore Products

Over the last couple years I have gradually transitioned to using almost entirely professional/salon brand hair products and high end makeup and skin care products. I originally made the switch from drugstore to high end products because I was curious, what is the big deal and why does it cost SO much more? And for me, the higher price tag ended up being worth it to me. However, there are some products that I absolutely love and, in my opinion, are just as good as their more expensive equivalent.

1. Dove Style + Care Strength & Shine Hairspray

I have tried a countless number of high end hair sprays and I haven’t been impressed by any of them. If feel like so many of them are too stiff, and they all end up getting clogged up so you can’t spray it without cleaning it out. I originally tried this hairspray at my mom’s house and immediately loved it. It is super light and smells good. You can use it without your hair looking over-sprayed down. You can buy it here for $3.49 or at any drugstore for around $4.

2. L’Oreal EverSleek Intense Smoothing Shampoo and Conditioner

I just recently discovered this shampoo and conditioner when I was out of my usual Pureology and needed some product ASAP. I ran into Target looking for something to hold me over until I could get more and this is what I came up with. I was pleasantly surprised by just how much I really liked this stuff! My hair was super smooth and soft. My good friend and stylist cautioned my to beware of the buildup it could cause, but when she did her buildup test (more to come on that later) she said I didn’t have any! After trying out this product, I am would have a hard time dropping the cash for Pureology again. You can buy the shampoo here and conditioner here for $5.97 each or any drugstore for around $6.

3. Maybelline New York Volume Express Colossal Cat Eyes

I would compare this mascara to Benefit BadGal Lash Mascara.
You can basically get the same effect with both mascaras. They will both give your lashes a fabulous, long, full look. I will say that I think the Benefit mascara will give you the look a little more effortlessly, but it costs significantly more money. You can absolutely get the look with this Maybelline mascara, but it might be an extra coat or two. You can get it here for $5.94 or the BadGal Lash Mascara here for $18.93 (including shipping).

 4. Sally Hansen Hard as Nail Top Coat

I have a good friend who I always end up painting my nails with whenever we get together. After a while I noticed that her paint was lasting so much longer than mine. Eventually I made the switch to her go-to top coat in hopes it would prolong the life of my polish, and it actually did! This is by far my favorite top coat I have tried. It gives my nails a nice shiny finish and it makes my polish last. You can buy it here for $4.78 or get it at any drugstore for less than $5.

5. Revlon Colorstay Ultimate Suede Lipstick

I am basically collecting this lipstick in every color. It goes on smooth, dries to a nice matte finish, and it lasts forever. I absolutely love this lip color. You can buy it here for $7.55 or at any drugstore for under $8.
