3 Things to Consider BEFORE You Buy Online Coupons

I am super guilty of calling my husband urgently and telling him how “I need to act quick and buy a certain Groupon because the deal is AMAZING!” I am lucky to have a voice of reason in my ears and some experience under my belt to remind me to do a little homework before I whip out my credit card. Here are a few important things to think about before you start buying up internet coupons.

1. Is it really a good deal?

There have been many times when I have looked at a deal and thought, “Wow! It’s 92% off! I NEED it!” only to realize that it is ALWAYS 92% off everywhere you look and it isn’t a good deal at all. Before you pull the trigger on an amazing deal, do a quick search. Check Amazon for products, check Expedia for getaways. You may find that something really is a fantastic deal, or that you are in no hurry because you can get that deal any time.

2. Read reviews!

A while back some friends and I got a Groupon to go to a fabulous “spa day”…at the world’s sketchiest salon. The service was terrible, the salon was run down, and they barely had time to squeeze us in. We left feeling like even though it was cheap, it was kind of rip off. And that was only my second worst Groupon experience. Another time we had a coupon for a car detail from a shop that was CLOSED! Not closed for the day, closed for forever. Had we read reviews before hand, we could have avoided wasting money on uncomfortable ridiculous experiences. Take time to read reviews about a place, or about a product before you buy the coupon, you’ll always be glad you did.

3. Read the fine print.

If the only time you can use your coupon is the third Wednesday of the month from 3-3:15 pm, it is not a great coupon. Many coupons will have blackout dates, or use by dates that may not be realistic for you. Make sure you read the print and know what you are getting into before you buy something.

All that being said, you really can find some awesome deals on websites like Groupon or LivingSocial. If you are planning a vacation or looking for something to do in your city, or hiring someone for cleaning, or want to take a class or need your hair done or ANYTHING, check out these sites and you just might find a winner!
